Let's begin by defining what our candles are. Our candles are produced ethically in small batches with sustainable ingredients and packaging. All of our candles are vegan, cruelty-free and are made without the use of phthalates, parabens and petroleum or carcinogenic ingredients. We also make use of 100% soy candle that is harvested from sustainable crops in the USA. What exactly is soy wax, and why is it important?

Soy wax is derived from soybeans (shocking, right?). They do this by taking cleaned, cracked, dehulled soybeans and then rolling them into flake. The oil can be removed and then hydrogenated. In addition, the leftover flakes can be used for animal feed! The process alters the melting temperature which makes it stable at room temperature and perfect for candles. If being 100% natural, renewable and biodegradable as well as vegan wasn't enough, then soy wax generally has the longest burn time , and is free of indoor air pollution.

What do you think of other waxes? Well, there are three different waxes which are frequently used in candles. These include paraffin wax, beeswax, and coconut wax. Let's look at these three. Paraffin is, in fact the most widely used wax for candles, especially scented candles, because it is very fragrant and has a long throw. So, why are increasing number of businesses turning to alternative waxes? Because they aren't renewable! Paraffin wax is made from coal, petroleum or oil and is carcinogen! We care about the planet as well as our customers' health we are here Brand & Iron, so environmentally sustainable, renewable and ethically sourced products are a must.

Beeswax is an extremely popular organically sourced wax that performs extremely well with candles generally. Be aware that beeswax comes with a strong natural scent, that doesn't blend well in conjunction with scents. But more importantly, beeswax is produced from bees (obviously) and, as a vegan candle company, that makes it entirely impossible to make.

The final thing to consider the final ingredient is coconut wax. Aside from the hefty cost, it's difficult to find truly 100% pure coconut. This is mostly due to the softness of coconut wax. Since it has such a low melting point, most coconut waxes are a blend, including one of the waxes mentioned above. While this in itself is not a problem, but due to the lack of transparency from manufacturers and the tricky language they use, it's nearly impossible to know what the wax is mixed with, and even the reason why they're mixed in the first instance. We'd like to ensure the purity sustainable, vegan, renewable and sustainable candle, which is why we use soy wax.

We don't stop at using soy-based wax to make the most sustainable and safe candle. We make use of a lead- and zinc-free cotton wick which is toxin-free and easier to use, and requires less care than an wick made of wood. What else can we do to differentiate our candles? Our commitment to our beliefs extends all the way to the packaging. That's right; even our packing peanuts are biodegradable. in fact, all our packaging is recyclable.
